    Douglas Tartan Clan History

    With origins in South Lanarkshire the clan spread throughout Scotland and boasted the two powerful branches of the Red Douglases and the Black Douglases. At the forefront of Scotland's turbulent affairs, the clan fought for the nation's freedom during the Wars of Independence, and it was Sir James Douglas, one of Robert the Bruce's loyal commanders, who attempted to carry the warrior king's heart to the Holy Land.
